Aggression Towards Humans
A horse that is aggressive toward people is obviously a danger and a liability. Most horses that show aggression toward people are not actually vicious but instead have a lack of respect. You may see a horse that is gentle and well behaved with an experienced horseman quickly become dangerous with an inexperienced handler that they do not respect. They have learned that they can intimidate by biting, kicking or bluffing. Bluffs include: pinning ears, baring teeth and spinning around and threatening to kick. Every time they are successful in making a person retreat, it further reinforces in their mind that they are the dominant individual. Many cases start out as bluffs or threats but as the horse is repeatedly successful in his domination, the behaviors will often become more violent and physical. Occasionally a horse will truly be a mean animal but this is rare. Regardless of the underlying cause of the behavior, due to the horse's size, strength and ability to seriously hurt someone, it is unacceptable.
The ViceBreaker® is the perfect solution to this problem. Unlike other methods, for example, whips or bats used for defense, the ViceBreaker is much safer for all involved. The horse can be corrected from a distance the instant he shows aggressive behavior without having to wait for him to get within striking distance. The ViceBreaker® also does not make the horse headshy or fear humans in any way. No one ever raises a hand to him but he is instantly corrected by what he perceives as an invisible force. Please read through our many Testimonials on this particular vice.
It is possible that your horse may be in some form of pain and is showing aggressive behavior to avoid forced exercise or it is possible that they may have hormonal imbalances that cause them to be aggressive. It is important that you have a veterinarian rule out any medical problems before using the ViceBreaker®. Aggressive behavior can also be the sign that your horse is extremely unhappy with his environment. Please read our Factors page to better understand why horses perform bad habits and also our
Tips page for suggestions on how to improve his lifestyle.
