Chewing Blankets or Fly Masks

Blankets, sheets, hoods and fly masks are expensive necessities in some segments of the horse industry. They are used:

  1. To prevent insect bites

  2. To keep an animal dry

  3. For UV light protection

  4. To keep a haircoat polished and smooth

  5. For warmth

  6. To prevent eye infections that are transmitted by flies

  7. To keep a horse clean.

Some horses don't like to wear them and will scrape them on any sharp object they can find. They will rub them along walls to tear them off or they will chew them anywhere they can reach. In other cases, the horse wearing the blanket or fly mask may love it but a neighboring horse or pasture-mate feels that it must be removed and destroyed.

People have tried coating the blankets or masks with bad tasting sprays but often these are not successful. The ViceBreaker® will quickly deter your horse or his friend from removing or damaging their "clothes". Before using the ViceBreaker® it is important to make sure that the fly mask or blanket fits properly and that it is not causing irritation to the horse. It is also important to make sure that the blanket is suitable for the weather conditions and that it is not too hot.
